As if our electrical grids aren't facing enough challenges, extreme weather, rolling blackouts and record demand for power, all while the infrastructure is obsolete and outdated-- but now we have to worry about a squirrel?
Fresh off the news feed today, a squirrel caused a power outage at the Conewago Valley School District in Adams County, Pennsylvania. A United Hook & Ladder Company responded to calls Friday morning to utility wires and a pole on fire and to their surprise, they found a dead squirrel that had been walking on the wires. The subsequent fire knocked out power to the area.
Firefighters said there was a widespread power and tech outage at the school district, forcing early dismissal for students. I'm sure the kids were happy for the short day, but the school's football team might not be so lucky unless they restore power fast. Without power there will be no Friday night lights!
